Maritime Groups Join Effort to Expand U.S. Sovereignty

The American Sovereignty Campaign (TASC) today announced that the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA), the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA) and the National Association of Marine Services (NAMS) have joined the campaign to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty. “CSA’s, MEBA’s and NAMS’ endorsement further demonstrates the broad support ‘Law of the Sea’ enjoys among U.S. business leaders and working Americans across every sector of the U.S. economy,” said TASC Director Jeff Pike. “We strongly urge the Senate to ratify the Treaty during the upcoming ‘lame-duck’ session and deliver the benefits of expanded U.S. sovereignty to America’s businesses.”

Former Chief of Naval Operations Says ‘Law of Sea’ Ratification Critical to Strengthening U.S. Military, National Security and Economic Interests

Former Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead today urged ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty at a conference hosted by the Georgia Military Affairs Coordinating Committee, a group founded as a partnership between the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia governor’s office. Speaking before conference attendees at the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA, Admiral Roughead emphasized the critical importance of immediate action on the sovereignty-expanding Treaty.

U.S. Senate Leaves American Business on ‘Sidelines’ Without Law of Sea, Says Largest Business Association

In a letter sent today to all U.S. Senators, Thomas J. Donohue, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – America’s largest business association – urged all Senators to “carefully examine the merits of the renegotiated” Law of the Sea Treaty when the times comes to decide on ratification and cautioned that failure to ratify would “leave U.S. business on the sidelines.”
